Duncan Kent & Associates Ltd. is a technical documentation company based in Vancouver, Canada. We help our clients prepare quality print and online publications to support their products and services. We offer manual writing, editing, production, consulting, and training services. We serve all levels of government, software developers, high-tech companies, industry, utilities, educational institutions, banks, and health care organizations.

Over the years, we’ve guided the development of more than 300 manuals and technical publications. Duncan Kent is the firm’s founder and senior project manager. He holds a Masters of Arts (MA) and in 1990 was awarded the designation of Certified Management Consultant (CMC). Duncan has worked for almost 40 years as a professional business and technical writer, documentation consultant, and trainer. He is a founding member and past-president of the Canada West Coast chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (16,000 members worldwide). Duncan also taught technical writing at Simon Fraser University from 1988 to 2016, and taught business writing at the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business from 2011 to 2016.

Joyce Arthur is our senior technical writer and works closely with clients to prepare technical publications. She plans publications, interviews subject matter experts, prepares drafts, and coordinates technical reviews. She is an expert user of word processing tools, and typically formats and produces the publications she writes. Since 1990, she has written or edited hundreds of manuals for clients across a wide range of industries. Her specialties include: Industrial operations, equipment operation, electrical industry, vegetation management, herbicide use, healthcare and medicine, occupational health and safety, document management systems, policy & procedure, legislation compliance, audit compliance.

Michelle Shute is our senior technical writer and editor and works closely with clients to plan and organize their documentation systems and processes, develop custom tools such as templates and writing standards, and edit or draft content as needed. She has extensive experience working on management systems that document how companies comply with internal and external requirements, standards, and industry best practices. She specializes in improving the wording and format of documents so they are better suited to their intended audience and purpose. Michelle holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Communications from Simon Fraser University and is a graduate of Print Futures, Douglas College’s professional writing program. Since joining the firm in 1991, she has edited and produced hundreds of print and online manuals, guides, forms, flow diagrams, job aids, training modules, and other documents for a variety of organizations and industries.
